Annual Attendance and
Economic Impact of
Southern Decadence

With an inviting blend of tolerance and freewheeling fun, the City of New Orleans has been home to Southern Decadence since 1972. The celebration of gay culture grows in both size and scope each year.  It is considered to be both a major street fair and circuit party event.  In the past five years alone, attendance has more than doubled to an estimated 120,000+ visitors. And during the same five-year period, the economic impact tripled to an estimated $95 million in 2003.  It now ranks as the third largest-attended event in New Orleans. So when referred to as the "Gay Mardi Gras," we're not kidding around.
